Passivation and galling notes for stainless pipe fittings

2026年10月5日

Stainless fittings earn their keep in corrosive or washdown service, but dry make/break threads can gall. OEM prints should mention passivation and assembly expectations, not only “304” or “316” in the title block.

Browse current SKUs under stainless steel pipe fittings. For cost-sensitive companion parts, keep selected lines in carbon steel instead of forcing one metal everywhere.

Passivation after machining

Machining leaves free iron and heat tint risks. Passivation restores a clean chromium-rich surface when the specification calls for it. Ask for it on the RFQ if your customer quality packet expects it.

Galling risk checklist

  • Frequent disassembly
  • Tight tolerance threads
  • Dry assembly in the field
  • Hardened or work-hardened surfaces

Tell us which joints are service joints. Lubrication guidance or surface options can be discussed with the quote.

Documents that travel with stainless lots

MTR, dimensional reports, and thread gauge records are common. List them up front via Contact. Capability overview: OEM / ODM.

FAQ

Frequently asked questions

01Is 316 always better than 304?

Not always. 316 helps with chlorides and harsher chemicals; 304 is enough for many indoor jobs. Follow the customer spec when written.

02Can you mix stainless fittings with carbon nuts?

Yes, but consider galvanic and assembly notes. We can quote mixed BOMs line by line.
